Achieved our first successful run of the ECO pilot unit at the Burger Plant.

December 2001

Received our first commercial order to install a 50-MW ECO system at FirstEnergy’s Burger Plant.

July 2002

Announced alliance with Wheelabrator Air Pollution Control, Inc. to provide commercial ECO systems to the electric utility industry.

February 2004

Began integrated system testing of the 50-MW ECO unit at the Burger Plant.

May 2004

Entered into a cooperative research and development agreement (CRADA) with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL) to develop a cost-effective CO2 removal process for coal-fired power plants. 

Successfully completed 6-month performance run of the 50-MW ECO unit at the Burger Plant.  FirstEnergy announced plans to pilot test our “ECO2™” CO2 capture technology at the Burger Plant.

FirstEnergy announced plans to install an ECO system on units 4 & 5 (312-MW) of the Burger Plant.  The system is scheduled to be operational in the first quarter of 2011.

American Municipal Power-Ohio announced its commitment to use the ECO technology on the proposed 1,000 MW AMP-Ohio Generating Station Project in southern Meigs County, Ohio. 

NRG Energy Inc. and Powerspan announced a memorandum of understanding for an ECO2 125-MW carbon capture and sequestration (CCS) commercial demonstration at NRG’s WA Parish plant in Texas.

December 2007

Announced exclusive license of patent granted to U.S. DOE NETL.  Patent represents the only one issued in the U.S. to date covering a regenerative process for CO2 capture with an ammonia-based solution.
