Powerspan Testifies at Hearing of U.S. Senate Committee on Energy & Natural Resources
On August 1, 2007, Powerspan CEO Frank Alix testified before the Senate Energy committee at a hearing regarding Recent Advances in Clean Coal Technology. In addition to providing an update of Powerspan's CO2 capture process, his testimony included recommendations for incentives that would expedite large scale CO2 capture and sequestration projects. A recent MIT study entitled, "The Future of Coal: Options for a Carbon-Constrained World," placed a high priority on the commercial demonstration of CO2 capture from several alternative coal combustion and conversion technologies, as well as CO2 sequestration at a scale of 1 million tons per year. A copy of Alix's testimony can be found here: Senate Energy committee testimony.

Electric Power 2007 Conference & Exhibition, April 30 - May 2, 2007, Rosemont, Illinois
Powerspan sponsored and presented at the Electric Power 2007 event. On the afternoon of April 30, CEO Frank Alix presented in a pre-conference workshop entitled, "Advances of Multipollutant and CO2 Control Technologies." On the morning of Thursday, May 2, VP of R&D Chris McLarnon presented a status of Powerspan's CO2 capture technology under development. The annual conference, now in its ninth year, is sponsored by Power magazine and presented by The TradeFair Group. For further information, please visit www.electricpowerexpo.com.

Emerging Energy Technologies Summit, February 9-10, 2007, University of California at Santa Barbara
Powerspan's Frank Alix presented “Emerging Options for Near Zero Emissions Coal-Fired Power Plants” where he made the case that technologies exist today to make coal-fired power generation as clean as natural gas for conventional pollutants, and that it is too early to anoint IGCC as the future of coal, particularly where ammonia-based CO2 capture is emerging as more cost effective.  He also stated that stronger regulations would accelerate CO2 capture technology development, but enhanced oil recovery opportunities provide near term motivation.  The goal of the summit was to analyze barriers and incentives for the adoption of emerging energy technologies, with focus on technical, environmental, socio-economic, and political issues and their resolution.  You can view the all the presentations at http://www.c2c.ucsb.edu/summit2007/presentations.php and obtain background, speaker information, and agenda through the following link: http://www.c2c.ucsb.edu/summit2007/index.php.

Electric Utilities Environmental Conference (EUEC), January 22-24, 2007, Tucson, AZ
