Power-Gen International 2000—Presentation
Christopher McLarnon, Ph.D., Director of Research & Development, presented a paper at Power-Gen entitled, Pilot Testing and Scale-Up of a Multi-Pollutant Control Technology at FirstEnergy. Power-Gen was held at the Orange County Convention Center, Orlando, Florida, November 14–16, 2000. Further information on the event can be obtained at www.powergen.com.

Conference on Air Quality II: Mercury, Trace Elements, and Particulate Matter—Presentation
Phillip Boyle, President and Chief Operating Officer of Powerspan, and Michael Horvath, Director, Environmental Projects of FirstEnergy, co-presented a paper entitled, Electro-Catalytic Oxidation (ECO) Technology Applied to Mercury and Trace Elements Removal from Flue Gas. The paper describes performance of the ECO pilot unit located at FirstEnergy's R. E. Burger Plant including measurements of mercury, other heavy metals, total particulate, and fine particulate emissions.

Electro-Catalytic Oxidation Technology Applied to
Mercury and Trace Elements Removal from Flue Gas

Air Quality II is organized and sponsored by Energy & Environmental Research Center, U.S. EPA, and U.S. DOE. The event was held September 19–21, 2000 at the McLean Hilton at Tysons Corner in McLean, Virginia. Additional information on the event may be obtained at www.eerc.und.nodak.edu.

Electric Power 2000—Presentation
Powerspan presented a technical paper and exhibited at Electric Power 2000 at the Cincinnati Convention Center held April 4–6, 2000. Christopher McLarnon, Ph.D., Director of Research & Development of Powerspan, and Morgan Jones, Senior Technical Specialist of FirstEnergy Corp. co-presented a paper entitled, Electro-Catalytic Oxidation Process for Multi-Pollutant Control at FirstEnergy's R. E. Burger Generating Station. The paper discusses the ECO system, pilot test set-up, removal efficiencies of NOx, SO2, mercury, and other air toxics as well as overall economics of the process as evaluated by Powerspan and FirstEnergy.
