Powerspan
Initiates Charitable Giving Programs
NEW DURHAM,
N.H., January 5, 2001Chairman and CEO of Powerspan Corp.,
Frank Alix, along with 17 other prominent technology leaders, recently
announced the creation of e-cares, a new venture philanthropy
initiative supported by the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation.
In connection with the launch of e-cares, Powerspan is initiating
programs that encourage employees to donate time and money to nonprofit
organizations that benefit the community.
Under a new
matching gifts program, the Company will donate up to $50 per employee
per year to match employees' gifts to charities such as educational,
health care, environmental, cultural, and civic organizations. In
addition, Powerspan encourages employees to donate time to philanthropic
efforts in their communities by allowing paid time off for volunteer
activities.
"Our people
are committed to developing technology to clean and preserve our
environment," said Powerspan CEO Frank Alix. "It is a
natural extension of this commitment to become involved in making
the local community a better place to live. With these initiatives
Powerspan will actively support our employees and community."

E-cares
was formed as a vehicle for the high-tech community to support New
Hampshire's nonprofit organizations by fostering a "culture
of giving." Through corporate giving programs and liaisons
with community nonprofit organizations, e-cares hopes to
harness the energy that characterizes the state's high-technology
industries and use it to drive philanthropic efforts.
At a launch
reception on December 6, attended by New Hampshire Governor Jeanne
Shaheen and state business leaders, the e-cares website and
logo were unveiled. The website, www.e-cares.org, will provide a
marketplace for the exchange of resources between nonprofit charities
and the member companies. Governor Shaheen called e-cares
"a model program that other states will want to emulate."
E-cares
member companies have raised $125,000, which will be returned to
the community through grants to nonprofit organizations. New Hampshire
Charitable Foundation will administer the funds, arrange grants,
and provide expert advice on corporate giving programs. Membership
dues, strategic grants, paid time off for volunteers, and a range
of other giving options allow e-cares companies to help their
own communities. E-cares provides a link between the high-technology
business world and the many organizations working to improve the
lives and hopes of people in need.
